The Tramonti crime family was a criminal organization from the southern United States. It was believed to be the oldest Mafia organization in the country. Carlo Tramonti headed the family from the 1930s to the 1960s. The family was primarily involved in gambling and invested heavily in the pleasure resorts of Havana casinos and whorehouses. They also owned one of the most luxurious hotels in Miami Beach.
In 1964, Carlo Tramonti ordered the assassination of President James Shea. Shortly before he was summoned to appear before a grand jury, he was found with two bullets in his head and a cleaver in his gut. Tramonti was succeeded by his younger brother and consigliere, Agostino. A few years later, Agostino met a similar fate when he died under suspicious circumstance before he would appear in court to testify about the Shea assassination.[1]
Matty Parisi became boss of the Tramonti family in the 1970s.
