Taormina is a town on the east coast of the Province of Messina, in Sicily by the Ionian Sea. Michael Corleone and his wife Kay Adams visited Taormina during their holidays in Sicily in 1957.

Behind the scenes

Much of the first film was filmed around Taormina rather than to film in the actual village of Corleone which was notorious for its high crime rate and was deemed unsuitable as a filming location. In the the third film, the railway station of Bagheria was in reality the railway station of Taormina.
