"Speak Softly, Love" is the main theme music from The Godfather. It was written by Larry Kusic and Nino Rota. It is also known as "Love Theme from The Godfather"

The theme appears numerous times in the film, usually as an instrumental piece, although it is sung by an old woman in The Godfather Part II and again by Anthony Corleone in The Godfather Part III, who claims it is an "authentic Sicilian ballad" called "Brucia La Terra".

Other Releases[]

It has also been released by several artists, including Andy Williams, Bobby Vinton and Al Martino, who plays Johnny Fontane.

Dalida performed the French version "Parle plus bas". "Brucia La Terra" was recorded by Gian Campione and can be found at the album "Calura" from 2009.

It was also released by Patrick Buanne as "Parla più piano", which is the translation of the song in Italian.

Lyrics[]

Speak softly, Love, and hold me warm against your heart
I feel your words, the tender trembling moments start
We're in a world, our very own
Sharing a love that only few have ever known

Wine-colored days, warmed by the sun
Deep velvet nights, when we are one

Speak softly, Love, so no one hears us but the sky
The vows of love we make will live until we die
My life is yours, and all because
You came into my world with love so softly, Love

(instrumental interlude)

Wine-colored days warmed by the sun
Deep velvet nights when we are one

Speak softly, love so no one hears us but the sky
The vows of love we make will live until we die
My life is yours, and all because
You came into my world with love "so softly, Love"
