Simonetta Stefanelli (born November 30, 1954) is an Italian actress born who was born in Rome. She made her first appearance in La Moglie Giapponese and appeared in several Italian films before appearing in her first international role in The Godfather, as Apollonia Vitelli, at the age of 16.

Later, she married actor Michele Placido with whom she had three children, Michelangelo, Brenno Placido and famous singer and actress Violante Placido. They divorced in 1994.

Like fellow Godfather actor Abe Vigoda, Stefanelli was reported dead in 2005 but has since appeared in public to denounce these rumors.

Stefanelli owns a boutique in Rome called "Simo Bloom"

Stefanelli later characterized her role as Apollonia in The Godfather thusly: "I met him, I married him, I died".[1]
