The Rosato Regime was a rebellious faction in the Corleone crime family founded by Tony and Carmine Rosato. The Rosato’s were two gangsters who worked for Giuseppe Mariposa in the 1930s, before falling under the aegis of Peter Clemenza. They were backed up by Hyman Roth in Miami during the 1950s to make a power-play within the Corleone family. They also had ties to Rico Tattaglia.[1] Operating out of their restaurant in downtown new york, they have large stakes in Drug Trafficking and Prostitution.
It was believed that the Rosatos had somehow caused the death of Clemenza, having allegedly been promised three territories in The Bronx after he died. Clemenza's successor, Frank Pentangeli, refused to hand over the territories, but was told to negotiate by Michael Corleone, who was in business talks with Roth. At a peace meeting, Pentangeli was nearly assassinated by the Rosatos.
Roth conspired with the Rosato Brothers to place the blame for the failed hit on Michael Corleone. Thinking Michael had betrayed him, Pentangeli decided to cooperate with law enforcement against him, thereby further tearing apart the Corleone family from within.
Corleone consigliere Tom Hagen later mentions that the Rosatos where on the run after the assassination attempt on Pentangeli. It’s unknown what happened to the Rosato’s. But it’s most likely Michael eventually sanctioned their murder, as they had proven themselves enemies through their conspiring with Roth, as well as their war with Pentangeli.

Similarities with the Gallo Brothers[]
- The Rosato Brothers are primarily based on the Gallo Brothers Joseph "Crazy Joe" Gallo and Albert "Kid Blast" Gallo.
- Both the Rosatos and the Gallos recruited black criminals into their crews.
- They both went to War with their respected bosses, and kidnapped high ranking members of their family, holding them as hostages.
- The assassination attempt on Pentangeli is inspired by a similar incident in which Joey and Albert's brother Larry Gallo was strangled during a sit down and narrowly escaped with his life due to the intervention of a policeman.
- The C-note discussion between Pentangelli and Carmine was also quoted directly from the conversation at the door that Larry Gallo had before the attempt on his life.[2]
- Due to their rebellious nature, both of their crews came to be regarded as their own independent crime families.
