Robert Dantzler was a detective in the New York Police Department.

In 1963, along with his brother-in-law Vernon Rougatis, Dantzler accepted a contract (masterminded by Nick Geraci) to take compromising pictures of Tom Hagen with his mistress Judy Buchanan. Dantzler, despite knowing Hagen's ties to the Corleone family, accepted, largely in order to receive a pay-off that would be substantial to his much younger wife.

However, during one of their trips, Dantzler and Rougatis accidentally became involved in a firefight with Buchanan that resulted in her death. Dantzler was warned to immediately get out of town, which they did. However, they were later both murdered to cover up the plot.
