The baritone Paolo Gavanelli first studied law before he turned to singing. Having finished his law studies and also his voice training, he made his debut as Leporello in "Don Giovanni".

Soon after his debut, there followed the call to the great opera houses of the world. He regularly made appearances in all the important baritone roles of the Italian repertoire at the Metropolitan in New York, the San Francisco Opera, Covent Garden in London and the Bavarian State Opera in Munich.

He provides the voice of Alfio in The Godfather Part III. The character was played physically by Angelo Romero.
