A long-standing associate of Hyman Roth, Mortie was close friends with Johnny Ola, who he worked with to help ensnare Fredo Corleone and trick him into bringing down the Corleone family. He was also linked to Gussie Cicero, who had given him information on how to get close to Fredo, thinking he was performing an innocent favour in settling negotiations between Roth and Michael Corleone.
