Italy is a country in southern Europe where Cosa Nostra or the Mafia emerged in the nineteenth century. It consists of the Italian peninsula, Sicily, Sardinia and many other smaller islands. The capital of Italy is Rome, which is also home to Vatican City. Italy is generally known for its cultural heritage and natural beauty.

Several of the Dons in the United States originated from Italy and Sicily, such as Salvatore Maranzano and Vito Corleone.
