Dominic Corleone and Aldo Trapani.
The Don of New York is a position that can only be achieved when one family becomes powerful enough to unite all of the Five Families under one banner. A higher position still is capo di tutti capi (boss of all bosses) which is the leader of the commission across the United States, or Sicily.
Aldo Trapani gained this position in 1955 following Michael Corleone's move to Nevada and the defeat of the Barzini, Tattaglia, Cuneo and Stracci families, leaving the new bosses to eagerly sue for peace.
When Aldo Trapani died in Havana in 1959, Carmine Rosato took over most of Aldo's bussinesses in New York. When Trapani's underboss Dominic took the place of Don in Trapani family and again united New York under one banner, he became the new Don of New York, with the blessing of Don Corleone.
Notable Dons of New York:
- Aldo Trapani (proxy and deputy for Vito Corleone)
- Dominic Corleone (proxy and deputy for Michael Corleone)
